October 31, 2022: Happy Halloween!

Ursula, dressed as a princess, laments "I really don't see why I have to dress up and walk all over the neighborhood every year when there's bags of candy at home." Her grandma, Agnes, dressed as a witch, scowls and chides Ursula, "Quit being your lazy father's daughter!" Noah, dressed Magnum P.I. in an open Hawaiian shirt, short shorts, and a stick-on moustache, is deeply offended and protests, "Hey! Me and my friends worked for our candy! We spent every Hallowe'en trudging through the snow in Flin Flon trick or treating!" Ursula, unimpressed, snarks "Yeah, yeah... uphill both ways, dodging dragons, hobbits, and orcs." Enraged, Noahpoints to the door and yells, "Out! OUT! You and your grandma Agness go and don't come back til both those pillowcases are full!" Ursula begrudgingly heads to the door, groaning, "Ugh... and I suppose I still have to do my own homework when I get back?" Agnes sulks and follows behind Ursula as Noah retorts "Shoulda done it before supper! Go!!!"

Never question a man’s boyhood dedication to the pursuit of candy. Happy Halloween!

Ruth is making cookie batter in the kitchen and Noah comes up to her, holds up the new issue of People Magazine to her and says "Happy Saturday!" Ruth replies, "What? I don't read People." Noah explains, "This issue has your very favorite, Bono. I drove all over town to find it early - most places won't have it til Tuesday." Ruth is pleased and says "Oh wow! Thanks!" Noah then thinks to himself "Happy Saturday night to me!"

Noah will go to great lengths to make Ruth happy… and to avoid Saturday chores.

October 27, 2022: Ursula’s Reading Habits

Noah's parent-teacher conference with Ursula's teacher Ms. Fardemar continues. Ms. Fardemar says "I'm also concerned about Ursula's reading. She—" Noah interrupts her, saying "What? Ursula's a great reader!" Ms. Fardemar continues "Reading material, not ability. She's done book reports on 'The Anarchist Cookbook,' 'The Art of War,' and 'The End of School." Noah retorts "So?" Ms. Fardemar adds, "She also keeps asking when we'll learn to make C4 in science class." Completely missing the point, Noah says "I told her 100 times: C4 is the middle note on the piano."

When I was in school, back when the internet was just bulletin boards, one of my pals had a printout of what was supposed to be the Anarchist Cookbook, and we all took turns borrowing it and reading it.
